I believe that leadership is a responsibility, not just a title. It is defined by influence and impact, not by the number of people you manage.
Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to have mentors who shaped my thinking, challenged my assumptions, and helped me navigate the transition from “Technical Specialist” to “Strategic Leader.”
Now, I want to pay that forward.
I offer pro-bono mentoring for software engineers, quality practitioners, emerging leaders, and anyone working in the software and technology space who are looking to level up their careers, solve complex organisational problems, or navigate the shift into management or technical leadership.
What is mentoring?
‘Mentoring is a brain to pick, an ear to listen, a push in the right direction’
John Crosby
Mentoring is a partnership. I am not here to just give you answers; I am here to share the context, frameworks, and experiences that will help you find the answer.
Whether you need a neutral sounding board, a specific strategy for a difficult conversation, or a push to aim higher in your career, my goal is to build your self-reliance and confidence.
What’s on offer?
I offer mentoring on a range of areas that can be best summarised by the four topics below:
- Scaling Your Impact: Strategies for growing your contribution beyond the code. Navigating the path to Staff-Plus, Engineering Manager, or Head of Function.
- Strategic Problem Solving: How to identify root causes of organisational friction, revitalise processes, and drive sustainable culture change.
- Career Strategy: Honest, impartial advice on positioning yourself for senior roles (CV reviews, LinkedIn strategy, and interview prep).
- Modern Leadership: Moving beyond “command and control” to lead with context. How to build high-autonomy teams, navigate complex stakeholder dynamics, and remove the systemic friction that slows your department down.
How it works
I mentor a small cohort of people at a time to ensure I can give proper focus to each conversation.
- Introduction: We start with a 30-minute discovery call to see if we are a good fit.
- The Format: Support can be flexible—whether that’s regular video calls, async support via Slack/Email, or ad-hoc “sounding board” sessions when you hit a specific challenge.
- The Cost: My mentoring is free. My only ask is that you are committed to the process and open to being challenged.
All mentees, both past and current also have access to The Quality Duck Slack space.
